‘Old’ wooden electric poles pose threat to congested Dabtal residents | KNO

Srinagar, Jan 30 (KNO): Residents of Dabtal, Gurgadi Mohalla, Zainakadal in old city Saturday appealed to the administration to ‘replace’ old wooden electric poles which they claimed pose ‘threat’ to the locals living around. The aggrieved residents said the poles erected much before the partition have never been replaced as the government is least bothered about the safety of the people. They also said that five poles fell down in the area during recent heavy snowfall. The residents appealed to the Lieutenant Governor administration to replace all wooden electric poles in the area before an untoward incident took place. “These electricity poles according to our elders have been erected during Maharaja Hari Singh’s era and have never been replaced or repaired since then, recently five such poles fell down during recent snowfall,” Bashir Ahmad a local told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). He said since the locality is congested with narrow lanes and by-lanes, they fear if any of these poles caught fire, fire tenders is a farfetched dream to get there. Adil Hussain, another resident said the old wooden electric poles with drooping electric wires give tough time to the residents living around. “We live under a constant threat of some untoward incident if the authorities do not take due notice to change these electric poles. These poles and the wires hanging on them pose grave risk to the residents living in this locality,” he added. He said the residents, made several requests to the concerned Executive Engineer regarding the issue, who had promised them to make the required change but did not take any action so far—(KNO)
